17 Feb 2011: Voting Terminals now part of 'It's Your Move' Tenancy Training thanks to an 'Awards For All' Grant
Through an 'Awards For All' grant, Stevenage Haven has been able to purchase interactive voting terminals, a projector and a laptop to allow interactive content to be included in the 'It’s Your Move' tenancy training programme and to allow greater engagement and participation by clients. Relevant course modules have been transferred to MSPowerPoint slides and interactive voting capability added to the slides. When the course is run, each client has a small hand held terminal which allows them to answer questions interactively by choosing their answer via the numeric voting keypad. The answers selected by the clients can then be anonymoulsy displayed on the slide followed by the correct answer where applicable. This provides instant feedback to the clients and the tutor and allows the tutor to guage whether more time needs to be spent on a particular topic area. Client feedback has been very positive on the use of the terminals in sessions. Example slides can be seen at the end of this page.
The 'It's Your Move' sessions are grouped into five general categories to reflect the five outcomes which Supporting People believe supported accommodation schemes should be working to achieve in all clients:

Be healthy: Sessions on healthy eating, dealing with alcohol/drugs, sexual health, accessing health care.
Economic Wellbeing: Sessions on day to day budgeting, dealing with debt, paying bills, accessing safer credit and setting up bank accounts.

Enjoy and achieve: Sessions on identifying training, preparing for job interviews, writing CV's and noticing problems with basic skills.

Make a positive contribution: Sessions on accessing voluntary placements, valuing diversity, service user involvement and getting the most out of support workers.

Staying safe: Sessions on preventing accidents in the home, housing options, dealing with neighbours and sustaining your tenancy.
Les Betts, who is responsible for running the programme, says “‘It’s Your Move’ is a tenancy sustainment educational programme which is designed to help the clients of Stevenage Haven move on with their lives and move in to their own independent accommodation and maintain a positive life-style.”
Stevenage Haven started running Broadway’s It’s Your Move training programme in 2009 and through a grant received from the Lloyds TSB Foundation for England & Wales was able to run a continuous rolling programme of the course at the Hostel from January to October 2010. This allowed more staff members to become involved as trainers for the course as well as staff further modifying the course material for our clients needs. Feedback from clients attending the courses has been extremely positive to date and we intend to continue running the course on a regular basis as well as using the content in one to one suport sessions.
