North Herts Sanctuary operates a direct access night shelter  where clients should apply from 7pm onwards.  Day services called DASH operate within the Sanctuary on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 2pm until 4pm.  It works specifically with drug and alcohol related problems and offers counselling, advice and a means of referral for treatment.

The Open Door Nightshelter is open from: 6.00pm-8.15am.  Drop in service for help and advice runs from 1.00pm-2.30pm Monday to Friday. It offers an emergency short term direct access nightshelter on a nightly basis for twelve men and four women who are homeless aged 18 plus. The project is managed by Hightown Praetorian and Churches Housing Association.

DENS is an independent homeless charity working with single homeless people between the ages of 18-65 yrs.  DENS provides emergency overnight accommodation in the Night Shelter which is open 365 nights a year and offers bed, breakfast and evening meal for up to nine people. In order to access the nightshelter clients must initially be referred from either the Housing Advice Centre at Dacorum Borough Council Civic Centre, or Hemel Hempstead Police Station. Clients can stay up to a maximum of 30 nights and may return to DENS after a 30 night time-out period. DENS also provides longer term housing in its Move-On accommodation which can accommodate up to five people.  DENS also operates a day centre Monday-Friday at Bury Lodge.

Watford New Hope Trust is a Christian charity providing a range of welfare and accommodation services to the homeless and others in need in and around Watford.  The charity operates the Haven Day Centre which is open Mondays to Saturdays from 9.00am to 12.30pm.  New Hope House a 'Dry' hostel providing supported accommodation for varying lengths of time and supporting people with a range of needs. Community Home supported housing (shared bedrooms) with 24 hour cover for people with drug or alcohol dependency. The Sanctuary, offering emergency short stay supported accommodation, a resettlement service and support. Cluster flats at "The Sanctuary" offering move-on supported accommodation for the more independent. Alpha Court, six one bedroom self-contained flats which offer short term, final stage supported accommodation before living independently.

There are local YMCAs at Welwyn Garden City, Bishops Stortford and Watford. The YMCA is the largest provider of safe, secure and affordable supported housing for young people in England. Every night, over 7,200 young people stay at a YMCA. The YMCA works with homeless young people from a wide range of life experiences and backgrounds. With over 150 YMCAs working in over 240 communities throughout England the geographical spread of the YMCA's work is extensive. Our work takes place in urban and rural settings and the diverse range of housing services we provide reflects the varied needs of the communities we are a part of.

The East Herts YMCA offers an Emergency Crashpad for up to 2 nights for anyone 18 and over.  It also provides Supported Housing comprising 27 self contained flats for those aged 18-30.

The Central Herts YMCA hostel provides 34 self-contained units and 82 catered rooms.  Other services on site include training for young people in life-skills, NVQ.  Other organisations which are based at this centre include the GAP (Guaranteed Accommodation Payments) scheme to support people aged 18 to 25 in getting accommodation.  Reception opening hours: 24hrs a day seven days a week.

Watford YMCA provides residential accommodation for men and women over the age of 18. There is no maximum age but some priority is given to 18-30 year olds.  In exceptional circumstances, under 18's may be considered, if sponsored by a recognised referral agency.  Activities and training are provided particularly in terms of those without full-time employment.
