31 May 2004 - Haven Four Scale Three Peaks
Homeless Shelter to benefit from Three Peaks challenge
Four supporters of the Stevenage Haven, the charity that provides shelter and support for homeless people in Stevenage scaled Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in the Lake District and Mount Snowdon in Wales
Participating were Haven Trustee Alan Curtis, Volunteer John Hollands, and staff members Ron Cohen and Neil Faiscan. They were all sponsored to raise money to help towards buying a minibus for the shelter. Alan Curtis, the Charities Treasurer, said "The Haven is going through an exciting period of development. This year we have for the first time been able to provide a range of daytime services for our clients. A minibus would allow us to expand the activities we can offer and allow our clients to access training in the surrounding area."
The walkers were supported by Newland Construction. Further support has come from Lisles Motors who are assisting with the transport of the 5 sponsored walkers and their driver.
The Haven works with a wide range of clients. John Moore the Haven's Director, who accompained the fearless four up Ben Nevis said, "People become homeless for a variety of reasons, it could happen to any of us. The Haven not only provides emergency shelter but a caring and supportive environment to help our clients re-establish their lives."
Sponsorships and donations from the local community are still very welcome and anyone wanting to support this initiative should contact the Haven on 01438 354884
