A huge thank you to all supporters, clients, staff and trustees who slept out under the stars in the grounds of St Albans Abbey on 7th December 2007 for Sleepout 2007. The night was cold but dry and therefore a big improvement on 2006 when we all got rather wet!
The event is organised by a committed team of volunteers from St Albans Abbey led by Brian and Jean Peyton. A big thank you to Brian and Jean and their team for all the hard work they put into this event each year.
SPONSORSHIP MONEY RECEIVED BY STEVENAGE HAVEN TO DATE TOTALS £4,350.21 INCLUDING GIFT AID.

427 people slept out this year which meant numbers were down a bit on last year when around 480 slept out and got rather wet so perhaps their enthusiasm to sleep out again this year was somewhat dampened! The atmosphere at the event was really good although there were a few creaking joints in the morning!
This year in addition to our dedicated band of supporters we had 8 members of staff plus various family members, two trustees, a volunteer and 3 clients sleeping out. Frankie Trudgill, our hostel manager, was among those sleeping out and she decided to spend the night sitting on a folding chair so she could be seen 'sitting guard' over the bodies strewn around her on the grass.
ONCE AGAIN THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO SUPPORTED US AT THIS YEAR'S EVENT.

Sleepout in St Albans raises £30,000 for Hertfordshire homeless charities
Saturday night's Sleepout ( December 7th) at St Albans Abbey has already seen around £30,000 pledged for four Hertfordshire homeless charities.
Four hundred and seventeen sponsored sleepers spent a cold but dry night under the stars. Among them were local MPs Mike Penning and Andrew Selous. They were joined by the Mayor of St Albans, Cllr Kate Morris and Deputy Mayor Cllr Geoff Harrison along with Dacorum Councillors Margaret Griffiths (Deputy Leader of the Council) and Cllr Brian Ayling. Sandy Walkington, Prospective Parliamentary Candidate also took part.
St Albans District Councillor, Brian Peyton, Chair of the Sleepout Committee, thanked all who took part on behalf of the people who will be helped - the homeless. He added "There was a good spirit and it was a thoroughly enjoyable - if cold - night. The money pledged means that Sleepout will have raised more than £250,000 over its thirteen year life so far. Come and join the fun next year and make a difference to homeless people."
The charities benefiting from this year's Sleepout are: Dacorum Emergency Night Shelter, Open Door, St Albans, Stevenage Haven, Stevenage and North Herts Sanctuary, Hitchin.
