7 Nov 2005 - Barbara Howard joins Stevenage Haven as new Director
Barbara Howard joined Stevenage Haven from St Matthew Housing on November 7th 2005. John Moore, Stevenage Haven's Director for the last two years, had decided that he wanted to return to the consultancy field and having completed a 3 week handover to Barbara left Stevenage Haven on 30th November 2005.
Barbara Howard writes:
I was born and educated in Hertford before getting married and moving to St Ives, Cambridgeshire some 25 years ago.
My previous job was with a housing association providing supported accommodation to single people with various support needs such as mental health problems, learning difficulties/disabilities. I worked at various levels during the 13.5 years and for the past four years was Area Manager covering the Northamptonshire, Cambridgeshire and South Lincolnshire areas. Previous to this I worked in Personnel management.
I have always had an interest in people from all walks of life and I hold a strong belief that there is a place in this world for everyone! Over the years I have appreciated that people who have experienced problems are unable to pick themselves up and move forward without having an address. As such my interest within the housing sector has broadened and I embrace enabling people to move on with their lives which requires the initial foundation of accommodation.
I was attracted to Stevenage Haven because of its first hand concentration and dedication to helping people in need in the community. I have witnessed for a couple of months now the warmth, non-judgemental attitudes and hard work of the staff and volunteers. Without these attributes I am sure quite a few residents would not have moved on with their lives in the positive manner that they have.
I am aware just how much work my predecessor, John Moore, has put into Stevenage Haven and I look forward to continuously building on this together with everyone else involved within Stevenage Haven.
