13 Nov 2007 - Support us at Sleepout 2007
Sleepout 2007 takes place on Friday 7th December 2007 starting at 9pm (arrivals after 8pm). It's not too late to join us and help us to raise more than £10,000 this year. There's a music event in the Abbey at around 9.45pm and the Abbey refectory is open all night providing free soup and hot drinks, toilet and First Aid facilities. Emergency shelter will be available in extreme weather conditions.
Last year nearly 500 people slept out overnight in the grounds of St Albans Abbey to raise money for four homeless charities. The final sum raised by our amazing supporters and their sponsors at Sleepout 2006 was £9,336. All monies raised at Sleepout go to your chosen charity.
To book a place, read and complete the forms which are now available from the Diocesan Website HERE.
Please contact Mike Nash on 01438 726703 or email mike.nash@stevenagehaven.org.uk if you would like further details. If you are sleeping out for Stevenage Haven we would also appreciate it if you could let Mike know.

LETTER FROM BRIAN PEYTON, SLEEPOUT CO_ORDINATOR
The Diocese of St Albans
The Board for Church and Society
Chairman of the Board: Mr Simon Best
July 2007
Dear Friend
Sponsored Sleep-out
Thank you for requesting further information about the sponsored sleep-out at St Albans Abbey which will begin at 9pm on Friday 7th December and end at 7am the next morning. There will be a formal registration when you arrive followed by worship at approximately 9.30pm. There will be time to socialise over refreshments before bedding down around the outside of the Abbey. Please complete the enclosed registration form and hand it in at the registration area to save you time. We would point out that there will be NO car access to the Abbey precincts and suggest the use of Westminster Lodge swimming pool car park at the bottom of Holywell Hill. A map of local car parks is included.
The aim of the sleep-out is to raise awareness of homelessness and to raise funds for four local charities dedicated to helping homeless people: Dacorum Emergency Night Shelter (www.dens.org.uk), North Herts Sanctuary (www.northhertssanctuary.org.uk) in Hitchin, Open Door www.opendoorstalbans-district.org) in St Albans and Stevenage Haven (www.haven.ik.com). I hope you will find the experience rewarding and be able to raise money through sponsorship for these worthwhile projects. The charity of your choice would be pleased to hear from you before the sleep-out.
Please read the list on the sponsor form of what you, and any others who might come with you, will need to bring on the night. Free hot drinks and toilet facilities will be available during the night. First aid and emergency shelter will be available in extreme weather conditions.
There is no age limit for those taking part in the sleep-out. However, we cannot take responsibility for those under 18 years. They are welcome as members of an organised group with the correct ratio of one adult over 21 years to eight young people maximum and a completed sleep-out registration form giving
parental and medical consent.
You will see from the sponsor form that we ask you to make your sponsorship cheque payable to only ONE of the above charities. Please ensure that all sponsorship money is sent to me as soon as possible after the event and no later than 31st January 2008.
Yours sincerely
Brian Peyton
